Welcome to the Argosy Website!

It is our hope that this will help better clarify some of our exclusions on our rates, and what they entail. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate the opportunity to bid on your barge needs, and look forward to hearing from you.

Stability Calculations
This is performed by the marine surveyor of your choosing who also creates the load and stow plan.

Ballasting
Usually excluded since this is not a requirement on all loads. Whether or not ballasting will be required is dependent on the marine surveyors load and stow plan, as well as the results of his/her stability calculations.

Gas Free Chemist
This is excluded because it is not always required. The only time a gas free chemist is required is when any welding will be performed on the deck of the barge. If this is required, this can run anywhere from $600 - $1,000 depending on the size of the barge being utilized.

Assist Tugs
Depending on the cargo dimensions provided, it may be necessary to utilize an assist tug. This is usually only required when dealing with cargo that would cause a visibility issue for the tug captain. If it is deemed necessary, we will include this in the rate or we may be able to utilize a high eye level tug. A high eye level tug is an inland boat that has a higher wheelhouse which allows the captain of the tug to see over larger cargoes. These high eye level tugs have a visibility of anywhere from 30-45 feet. We will include this in your rate and state it on the quote as well.

Cleaning
This all depends on how the cargo is secured to the deck. This is all based on how much securing material is welded to the deck of the barge. It is for this reason that this is usually excluded from the rate. If we are given a diagram of how the cargo will be secured, we can provide a rough estimate of what it will cost to clean the barge. Keep in mind that cleaning is not always necessary if no welding is performed.

Securing
This requires going out to a marine surveyor (at an additional cost) because we will not know what kind of materials will be necessary to secure the cargo. If diagrams are provided, we can forward these on to a marine surveyor. If requested, we can provide a rough estimate on
labor, depending on the terminal.
